ABOUT THE BUSINESS

The New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) acts on behalf of its members to ensure that member wellbeing, advocacy, education and veterinary standards are well supported. Maintaining high levels of veterinary services to members is a current focus for the NZVA.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The objectives of the Veterinary Resource Manager are to provide;

Leadership and Advocacy 

Provide strong advocacy and lobbying support to represent members of the NZVA 

Advance the profession by supporting key industry working and governmental groups responsible for policy and legislative change  

Provide leadership on key animal welfare issues on behalf of the NZVA and wider profession 

Standard Setting 

Support, promote and advance the professionalism of veterinarians by fostering high standards of professionalism and personal conduct in all aspects of veterinary endeavours and business 

Assist in the development of the highest appropriate technical guidance for the benefit of society 

Education 

Work with the Chief Veterinary Officer, the NZVA National Office team, the wider NZVA membership and the Committees of the Sheep and Beef Branch and Dairy Cattle Veterinarian Branches to ensure that key resources for veterinarians are available and contemporary  

Wellbeing 

Provide pastoral care, professional and technical support to NZVA members  


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated Skills 

  • Strong writer, capable of technical, policy, and educative writing styles
  • Research principles and practices, including literature review
  • Excellent interpersonal communicator (confident in delivering presentations in person and digitally, representing views in a group setting, and negotiating a consensus position)
  • Knowledge of key issues facing the veterinary profession
  • Relationship management (e.g. Boards, Committees, voluntary groups, stakeholders)
  • Computer literate

Education and Training 

This position is tailored for an experienced veterinarian with:

  • A large animal clinical practice background
  • Good understanding of the clinical practice environment, including consideration of practical impacts of primary sector changes
  • A thorough understanding of the role and importance of New Zealand's livestock/agricultural sector
  • A genuine passion to promote the value of veterinarians in New Zealand
  • Effective planning and administrative skills
  • Interest in, and willingness to learn about political/regulatory affairs
  • Interest in, and willingness to learn about animal welfare science and related issues
