Senior Policy Analyst - Biosecurity Policy - Permanent full time or part time position

Kōrero mō te tūranga-About the role
We are seeking someone with solid experience in policy to join our team. You will need to be a skilled communicator capable of working with a range of people with different backgrounds, perspectives and interests. You will enjoy working in a complex and ambiguous policy environment.
Previous experience in the primary industries is not essential but would be useful. We are after your ability as an analyst and your interest in the environment in which our primary producers operate.
To be successful in this role you need:
- Demonstrated experience as an analyst, senior analyst, or in a similar working environment.
- A capacity to quickly identify and clearly express core elements of an issue or proposal.
- The ability to find policy solutions and think broadly.
- Strong oral and written presentation skills.
- The ability to influence and persuade, and work across a range of different groups.
Flexibility is essential - while your initial assignment will be within biosecurity policy, you need to be prepared to work across the full range of subject areas covered by the Policy and Trade branch.
Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and/or experience in Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi analysis will be an advantage.

The Biosecurity Partnerships Policy team sits in MPI's Policy and Trade Branch and provides strategic policy advice and analysis on biosecurity issues. We help ensure that our world-leading biosecurity system protects New Zealand's economic, social, cultural, and environmental well-being from pests and diseases. We support groups throughout the community so that they have the tools they need to prepare for and respond to domestic biosecurity challenges. We work with industry to preserve and grow our productive and successful primary sector, and protect New Zealand's native species. Our teams include analysts with backgrounds in science, arts and humanities, veterinary medicine, and economics.
