Purpose of Position

To oversee the care provided to all dogs. The health of our dogs is our number one priority and we adhere to strict standards of care and hygiene. You will ensure these standards are met and that procedures and protocols are followed to a high standard. You will play an integral role in ensuring all puppies and dogs are prepared to their full guide dog potential with a focus on general development, training, health, welfare and temperament.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all puppies and dogs are provided with the specialist and optimal care to maximise their full potential as a guide dog.  
  • Provide specialist advice on individual dogs and the appropriate care.
  • Provide assistance at natural or artificial insemination.
  • Providing effective care for pregnant dogs and assistance at whelping.
  • Ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment for the dogs at all times.
  • Manage the breeding centre roster to ensure adequate staffing

What we are looking for:

  • Veterinary nurse or veterinary technician certificate or diploma 
  • 5 years of experience in animal care
  • experience managing an animal environment that requires a high level of biosecurity
  • experience with whelping
