Hours of work: 40 hours per week - Tuesday to Saturday

Location: SPCA Wellington Centre

SPCA Wellington are looking for someone who can help achieve the best outcomes for the animals under our care. You must also be able to work with a wide variety of people and provide excellent customer service as you will be responsible for completing animal adoptions.

Our Animal Attendants are responsible for general adoption enquiries, adoptions and taking care of the animals in the SPCA Centre. This also includes feeding, cleaning, monitoring animal health and behaviour. They also support the volunteers working in the animal areas.

The ideal candidate for this position, will have previous experience and evidence based skills in animal care, handling, behaviour, enrichment and welfare and ideally hold an animal care or veterinary nursing qualification. This is a busy role, where no two days will be the same you need to be comfortable working with a variety of animals predominantly felines and small animals. You may at times also help out our Canine Team so flexibility is required.

What we need from you

 Our ideal candidate will have:

o Enthusiasm and be a self-motivated team player who is passionate about animal welfare.

o Have experience and evidence based skills in animal care, handling, behaviour, enrichment and welfare, specifically working with felines and small animals

o Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle situations in a friendly and positive manner

o High level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills 

o Be technologically savvy – have sound computer skills including the use of e-mail, internet and Microsoft Office applications

o Effective time management skills, organisation and planning abilities

o Be supportive, empathetic and resilient.

o Be a quick thinker who is skilled at multi-tasking and meeting deadlines.

o Ability to build rapport with staff, employees, volunteers, other stakeholders and suppliers

o Professional in approach, open and engaging in manner with the ability to work effectively without supervision

o The ability to get to our location in the Town Belt in Newtown, as public transport can be a challenge.

o A full, clean Driver’s License
