The Palmerston North City Council is seeking an exceptional leader to manage its animal control service in the Environmental Protection Services team.
You will have excellent leadership and change management skills to develop a best practice animal control service. This is a critical public facing role requiring a proven ability to communicate well with members of the community, a good understanding of animal welfare and achieving compliance in a regulatory role.
A typical day will include providing strong leadership to a team of three Animal Control Officers and a Kennel Manager, the maintenance of up to date best practice policies and procedures and monitoring performance against them. Maintenance of the dog registration systems and developing and implementing strategies to achieve on time dog registration are key tasks. Other activities include the provision of public education, looking after the pound and regulatory compliance activities. Routine is varied but will include management and administrative tasks, projects, reporting, patrolling and responding to complaints that range from roaming or barking dogs to stock on the road or dog attacks.
To be a driven and enabling Council a new education driven approach is our preferred way to achieve compliance. You will lead change to establish a contemporary best practice animal management service. As a uniformed ambassador for the City while enforcing the Dog Control Act and relevant Council Policies and Bylaws you will have high visibility in the community.
