Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Preclinical Veterinary Studies
Palmerston North, New Zealand
SVS - Veterinary Education
College of Sciences
Term length: ongoing
Hours of work: full-time
Due to Covid-19 and the worldwide pandemic, we are currently only accepting applications from New Zealand Citizens, New Zealand Residents who are either residing in New Zealand or overseas OR applicants who hold a valid work visa and are currently living in New Zealand.
Tāwharau Ora, the School of Veterinary Science, is looking to recruit an academic to teach preclinical subjects to Bachelor of Veterinary Science students. Teaching responsibilities will primarily involve anatomy and physiology, but with a focus on the clinical relevance of these subjects. Significant effort has been made to integrate basic and clinical subjects within the programme so that students understand the importance of preclinical subject knowledge in their development as veterinarians.
The emphasis is on student learning rather than ‘teachers teaching’, so it is essential you are willing to engage with modern pedagogical methods based on sound learning theories.
The position would ideally suit someone with veterinary clinical experience, preferably across a range of species. However, we are more interested in employing the best person for this role rather than your qualifications.
Past experience has shown that academics in this area can have a broad range of research interests so, although this position is nominally being allocated to the Veterinary Education Group within the School, your research interests (and thus line management) may sit better with a different group e.g. Animal Welfare Science & Bioethics, Pathobiology or one of the clinical groups.
You will be expected to be a team player, passionate about veterinary education, research-active and to contribute to the administrative functions of the School and University. Previous experience with adult education would be advantageous but is not essential.
The School of Veterinary Science advances knowledge in animal health and welfare, biosecurity, conservation and sustainable productivity. We are a world-leader in our field, working with governments, other universities, international and national organisations and companies to improve animal health and production, and human health.
In addition to a base salary, Massey also offers up to 6.75% employer contribution to the UniSaver Superannuation Scheme, five university holidays per year; free eye test & staff study for eligible employees discounted membership to our fully equipped recreation centre and gym facilities as well as a comprehensive professional development and training programme.
