About Us

Critter Creek is a popular and well-established country retreat for beloved pets located just five minutes from Kumeu. We offer cat and dog boarding with Motel and Hotel options to suit the individual. Our communal cattery offers a spacious indoor/outdoor flow with lots of toys, scratching posts and cuddly relaxation spots- plenty of which are perfect for soaking in the day’s warm sunbeams! We also offer doggy day care 7 days a week for socialising, playing and exercise in the fresh countryside air, with three off-leash paddocks and a forest ready for exploring. Health, safety, and cleaning is paramount to us, which helps keep our animals happy, healthy and well cared for when they come stay with us for their own pet vacation!

The Roles

Feline Attendant - Part Time

We are looking for a superstar feline attendant who is passionate about everything feline and can commit to working 4-5 days a week taking care of our precious cats in our communal boarding cattery. Full flexibility is required (public holidays, including Christmas, are essential and non-negotiable). Hours are 8:00-11:00am, but flexibility to stay longer on busier days is required.

Duties include:

  • Monitoring daily health and wellbeing of cats in our care
  • Cleaning and disinfecting the facilities to a very high and perfectionist standard
  • Cat husbandry duties (grooming, health checking, playing, and interacting with all cats in our care)
  • Administering medications and monitoring health issues 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • A thorough knowledge of cat behaviour and body language
  • A perfectionist when it comes to cleaning, hygiene and organisation
  • Confident animal handling skills with all cat breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Detailed and attentive to individual cat’s preferences and needs
  • Eager to always improve oneself work, skills and knowledge
  • A gentle, calm and sincere attitude to suit feline temperaments
  • Able to demonstrate initiative, common sense and a willingness to take responsibility
  • Calm and efficient under pressure and in stressful situations
  • A united team player with effective communication, and confident working as an individual
  • Own car and license

Canine and Feline Attendant - Full Time

We are looking for a rockstar animal attendant who can commit to working 4 days a week (10 hour days), with full flexibility (weekends and public holidays are essential and non-negotiable). This role is primarily dog focused, with the ability to fill in with our cats as required. Set days will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but ability to fill in on other days is essential.

Duties include:

  • Dog socialisation and monitoring canine behaviour and body language
  • Monitoring daily health and wellbeing of cats and dogs in our care
  • LOTS of cleaning and disinfecting of the facilities to a high standard
  • Exercising dogs both on and off-leash
  • Animal husbandry duties (bathing, health checking, playing, interacting and getting to know each animal personally) 
  • Feeding and meal prep
  • Administering medications and monitoring health issues 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • A thorough knowledge of canine behaviour and body language
  • A basic understanding of positive reinforcement and force free training 
  • A perfectionist when it comes to cleaning, hygiene and organisation
  • Confident animal handling skills with all dog breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Detailed and attentive to individual animal preferences and needs
  • Eager to always improve oneself work, skills and knowledge
  • A confident, calm and sincere attitude to suit canine temperaments
  • Able to demonstrate initiative, common sense and a willingness to take responsibility
  • Calm and efficient under pressure and in stressful situations
  • Passionate about animal welfare
  • A mature and sincere attitude with a strong work ethic
  • A united team player with effective communication, and confident working as an individual
  • Physically fit
  • Own car and license

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidates must have experience in the animal care industry and/or hold a relevant qualification such as:

  • Certificate in Animal Care
  • Certificate in Canine Behaviour and Training
  • Certificate in Animal Welfare and Management
  • Certificate or Diploma in Veterinary Nursing
