Description

Wadestown Veterinary Clinic and Cattery now has a position available for a part-time cattery attendant. We are looking for our new team member to be excited and motivated about being part of our team and caring for our cats.

In addition to cleaning cages, feeding and cuddling cats, you will be required to help the veterinary hospital function on a daily basis. This includes preparing food for our radioactive iodine patients, maintenance of the property and garden outside, washing equipment, towels and uniforms etc. The role is a very physical one, so you will need to be reasonably fit and happy working outside in all weather. You will need to regularly communicate with our senior nurse/veterinarians about the health and wellbeing of our boarding cats, so previous cattery/nursing experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have these attributes:

  • excellent cat handling skills (previous experience in a cattery would be ideal)
  • confidence in assessing cat's health and wellbeing - we will provide guidance on this
  • reliability, punctuality and integrity
  • take pride in your work and looking for ways to improve the way things are done
  • great communication skills (you will be filling in daily charts for each patient and communicating with nurses/vets/other cattery staff regularly)
  • passionate about animal welfare
  • flexible and efficient
  • friendly and love working within a local clinic
  • confident working alone, and as a valuable team member - note that you will have no direct contact with clients
  • working in a cattery is your vocation

We envision the successful applicant to be working ~10 hours per week over 5 days (2-3 hour shifts) eg Weds/Thurs/Fri 4.30-6.30pm Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Plus occasional extra shifts to cover other staff. We are open on all public holidays so expect to work on these days. The number of hours per week can vary considerably depending on the time of year (Dec/Jan is very busy).

The starting date of this position is mid January 2022.

Your rate of pay will be minimum wage - currently $20 per hour.

If you're passionate about working with cats and supporting our hospital day to day then we would love to hear from you.
