Are you seeking a role where you can make a real difference? How does having the opportunity to see the outcomes of your work reflected in your community sound? At Hutt City Council, you'll soon see why we're proud to be working with our community to ensure our city and all of its people thrive.
We're looking for an Animal Control Officer to join our team (based in Seaview) who provide a safe environment through education, customer service and enforcement for dog owners and the community.
Your key role is to enforce the provisions of the Dog Control Act, Impounding Act and Council bylaws throughout the city, as they relate to dogs and other animals and provide advice to external and internal customers on animal matters.
Day to day, you'll be impounding wandering dogs, seizing dogs, investigating complaints, identifying unregistered dogs, issuing infringement notices, patrolling/surveying prohibited beach and dog exercise areas and educating our community.
You'll have knowledge of the legislation and bylaws we've mentioned, and experience in handling and controlling animals and ideally preparing evidence for and attending Court.
As you'd expect, a good level of physical fitness is required as is a current driver's license. It's a bonus for us if you have the Animal Control Officers National Certificates (Levels 2-4) and/or an Animal Care and Handling Certificate (NZQA).
You'll have pretty exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written) and be well equipped to negotiate difficult situations and people.
Here at Hutt City Council you'll work with talented people who work in diverse areas and take great pride in what they do. We're committed to your wellbeing, and we'll work with you to be the best you can be. You'll be well placed to take advantage of opportunities to grow personally and professionally with us.
