Board-Certified Surgeon or Surgical Residency-Trained Veterinarian
This job is no longer accepting applications.
Veterinary Associates Equine is seeking a board-certified surgeon or surgical residency-trained veterinarian to join our surgery team.
Currently there are two ACVS-boarded equine surgeons and one ACVIM-boarded internist among the 15 veterinarians working for Veterinary Associates. Veterinary Associates is an equine general and referral practice located in Karaka, New Zealand with a satellite practice in Kumeu, West Auckland. The practice is heavily involved in all types of equine pursuits and has a large surgical, medical, sports medicine, and reproductive caseload. The work environment is attractive; our custom-built hospital has all the latest equine medical technology. This includes a fully equipped surgical suite, dynamic endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, dentistry gear, regenerative therapies, including an in-house stem cell culture laboratory, and an in-house diagnostic laboratory. Our facility has 2 treatment areas, 2 recovery stalls, 1 surgery suite complete with arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and diode laser, and 14 stalls and yards with cameras. Karaka is a lovely rural community located just thirty minutes from Auckland’s central business district.
We pride ourselves on providing an excellent level of care with a strong supportive team environment. Social activities and a positive workplace culture are important. We have a work hard, play hard philosophy. All staff are encouraged in their CPD/continuing education interests. We welcome new ideas and the latest research and technology, and we want to continue to be leaders and innovators in our field. Sporting and other activities and interests (equestrian or otherwise) outside of work are supported.
Job requirements will cover a variety of veterinary care, both in the field and at the hospital, including, but not limited to, lameness, diagnostic imaging, wounds, endoscopy, primary surgery, and emergency surgery. Mentorship of our 3 veterinary interns will also be a part of daily responsibilities. While there is a general practitioner on call for routine emergencies, surgical emergency duties, which include evening, overnights, and weekend coverage, are shared with one other surgeon on a rotating basis. The right applicant must be board eligible or ACVS/ECVS-boarded. The candidate should have knowledge of both racehorses and sport horses and enjoy being a team player in a busy work environment.
