EQUINE VET
LOCUM EQUINE VET REQUIRED SOUTH ISLAND NEW ZEALAND
Due to the one of our vet team going on maternity leave from late 2023 we have a position available for the 2023/24 stud breeding season. The role would initially be hospital based, with some general field work also, but then as the breeding season commences the majority of the work will be reproductive based dealing with mares/foals on studs and all their reproductive care and management (very little, if any stallion work). Hospital work initially could involve anaesthesia so some experience in this would be beneficial, but not essential. You would be well supported by one fulltime reproductive vet and the remainder of our equine team who all have reproductive experience and involvement day to day over the season.
Ideally, we would like someone from mid-September 2023 through until February/March 2024 but we are very flexible and would be interested to hear from anyone who may be able to fulfil the entire period or just part of it.
RVC is a large privately owned mixed practice currently employing around 30 vets (total 100 staff) across all species just north of Christchurch (www.rangioravetcentre.co.nz). We have great access to the mountains and the coast/beach as well as an international airport and Christchurch city on our doorstep.
Currently our equine team is made up of 6 equine vets (1 being a specialist surgeon) and 3 equine nurse/technicians, and shared admin support from the general practice. We have all the usual equipment including dynamic and static scopes, digital xray and ultrasound as well as a purpose-built referral equine surgical facility/hospital and a new in house CT scanner.
The position is very well renumerated and a vehicle and accommodation are provided.
